No. While DJ and MC services are at the heart of what we do, many couples choose Big J Entertainment because of our ability to bring together multiple entertainment experiences under one trusted team. In addition to music and hosting, we offer a carefully curated collection of enhancements, including our Big Shots Photo Booth, Scents & Events Fragrance Bar, Dancing on the Clouds, Cold Sparkulars, custom dance floors, lighting, and The Noir Fusion Experience. Over the years, we've had the privilege of celebrating weddings with couples from a wide range of cultures, faiths, and backgrounds. Those experiences have given us a deep appreciation for the role music plays in bringing people together and honoring tradition. As open-format DJs with a broad knowledge of music from around the world, we're comfortable creating soundtracks that reflect a wide variety of cultures, musical styles, and family traditions. Yes. Big J Entertainment is proudly based in Jamaica, and we provide entertainment for weddings and events across all 14 parishes—from Negril Point in the west to Morant Point in the east. Over the years, we've had the privilege of celebrating with couples in resorts, private villas, historic estates, and unique venues throughout the island.Our work has also taken us beyond Jamaica. We've been invited to provide entertainment for celebrations overseas, and we're always happy to explore opportunities to travel. If you're planning your wedding or special event outside of Jamaica, we'd be delighted to discuss your plans and see how we can be part of your celebration.
Music Style & Requests
Our style is best described as open format, which means we're comfortable drawing from a wide range of musical genres, including pop, R&B, hip-hop, EDM, country, classic rock, soul, Motown, reggae, dancehall, Afrobeats, Latin music, and much more. More importantly, though, it's how we bring those styles together that defines our approach. We don't simply play one song after another. We create a seamless musical experience, blending genres, decades, and cultures with smooth transitions that keep the energy flowing naturally throughout the celebration.Our role is to read the room, understand the moment, and know when to build the energy or let it breathe. When the moment calls for it, we're not afraid to get on the microphone to encourage the dance floor, interact with your guests, and elevate the energy—but always in a way that feels natural and never distracts from the celebration itself. Every decision we make is guided by one goal: creating an atmosphere that feels effortless, keeps your guests engaged, and reflects the unique personality of your celebration.
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it. One of the best ways for us to understand your musical taste is through a Spotify or Apple Music playlist. Sharing the music you genuinely enjoy gives us valuable insight into your style, your personalities, and the atmosphere you'd like to create on your wedding day.Your playlist becomes the foundation for planning the soundtrack to your celebration. From there, we combine your musical preferences with our experience, read the room throughout the event, and make thoughtful musical decisions that keep the energy flowing naturally while creating the best possible experience for you and your guests.
Do you take song requests from our guests?It depends on the couple. During our planning consultation, we'll discuss how you'd like us to handle guest requests. Some couples are happy for us to take requests throughout the celebration, while others prefer that we don't take requests at all. Whatever your preference, that's exactly how we'll approach it.At all times, we're on Team Couple. Our role is to deliver the experience you've envisioned for your wedding day.When guest requests are welcomed, we'll always use our professional judgment before playing them. If a request complements the moment, fits your musical preferences, and keeps the energy flowing naturally, we'll be happy to work it into the celebration. Sometimes that may be right away, while other times it may be later in the evening when the timing is right.In our experience, guest requests are actually quite rare. That's because we've already invested the time to get to know you, understand your musical preferences, and prepare for the people we'll be playing for. By the time your celebration begins, we're not guessing—we're already playing the music your guests are most likely to connect with.While we do our best to accommodate appropriate requests, we can't guarantee that every song will be played. Every decision we make is guided by one priority: delivering the experience you've envisioned while keeping the celebration flowing naturally from beginning to end.
Pricing, Booking & Policies
Our pricing is based on several factors, including the type of event, your wedding date, venue, location, the amount of coverage required, and any enhancements you'd like to include.As a guide, our wedding DJ services start at US$2,500 for up to four hours of reception coverage. If your celebration requires additional services or a more customized experience, we'd be happy to prepare a personalized quotation for you.
After our consultation, we'll send you a personalized quotation along with our Service Agreement for your review and signature. Once the signed agreement and 50% retainer have been received, your wedding date will be officially reserved.
There isn't a specific timeframe for booking. Every couple's planning journey is different, and we believe the decision should come naturally once you've had the opportunity to explore our work and determine whether we're the right fit for your wedding.Our initial consultation is designed to understand your vision, your priorities, and the experience you're hoping to create. It's also an opportunity for us to determine whether we're the right fit to bring that vision to life. If we're both confident that we're the right fit, we'll invite you to move forward with the booking process and reserve your wedding date.
A signed Service Agreement and a non-refundable 50% retainer are required to reserve your wedding date. Full details of our retainer, cancellation, and rescheduling policies are outlined in your Service Agreement.

Once your booking is confirmed, we'll provide you with the planning tools needed to begin organizing your wedding entertainment. We'll also open the lines of communication, giving you direct access to us throughout the planning process. Whether you have questions, need guidance, or want to discuss ideas along the way, we're here to help ensure every detail comes together seamlessly.
Absolutely. Thorough planning is one of the cornerstones of our approach. While every wedding includes a comprehensive planning consultation closer to the wedding date, we're always available to meet throughout the planning process, whether by Zoom, telephone, or, whenever possible, in person.Our goal is simple: to give you complete confidence that every detail has been carefully considered. We'll take the time to understand your vision, review the timeline, discuss music and formalities, and ensure we're fully aligned on every aspect of your celebration. If additional conversations are needed along the way, we're always happy to have them. We believe peace of mind comes from thoughtful preparation, and we're committed to making sure you feel informed, supported, and confident every step of the way.
Absolutely. We believe the best weddings are the result of great teamwork, which is why we work closely with your wedding planner and fellow vendors throughout the planning process.Whether it's participating in planning meetings, coordinating with photographers, videographers, musicians, caterers, or reviewing the wedding timeline, we're committed to ensuring everyone is aligned and working toward the same goal. When appropriate, we're also happy to attend venue walkthroughs or site visits to help prepare for your celebration.Our role extends beyond providing entertainment. We believe collaboration and preparation are essential to creating a seamless wedding day, and we're committed to doing everything we can to support the entire vendor team while delivering an exceptional experience for you and your guests.
Your Wedding Day
A typical wedding in Jamaica begins at 4:00 p.m. As a general rule, we're on site by 12:00 p.m., giving our team approximately four hours to complete setup, testing, and final preparations before your celebration begins. If your wedding has an earlier start time, we'll adjust our arrival time accordingly to ensure everything is ready well in advance.For weddings that include production enhancements such as dance floors, draping, tents, specialty lighting, or other installations, setup may begin the evening before or early on the morning of your wedding, depending on venue access and logistical requirements.Preparation is one of the cornerstones of our approach. We believe in arriving early, allowing ample time for setup, testing, and attention to detail, so that when your guests arrive, our focus is exactly where it should be - on delivering an exceptional experience.
Absolutely. Redundancy is built into our approach. We believe every wedding deserves the peace of mind that comes from being thoroughly prepared, which is why we bring backup equipment and maintain multiple layers of redundancy throughout our setup.From microphones and speakers to laptops, cables, and other essential equipment, we always have additional gear on site. Our goal is simple: to be fully prepared so you can enjoy your wedding with complete confidence.
Our setups are fully self-contained, so in most cases, we don't require anything from the venue beyond adequate access for setup and breakdown, along with sufficient electrical power. We arrive with everything needed to deliver the services you've reserved, allowing our team to work efficiently and independently.If your celebration includes production enhancements such as dance floors, draping, tents, specialty lighting, trussing, or other installations, we may also require early access to the venue—or, where possible, access the evening before—to allow ample time for installation and testing.For certain outdoor or remote locations where reliable electrical power is unavailable, a generator may be required to safely and reliably operate the equipment. If this applies to your venue, we'll discuss it with you and your planner well in advance and help determine the most appropriate solution.We'll coordinate all logistical requirements directly with your planner and venue team well before your wedding day, ensuring everything is in place so you can simply relax and enjoy your celebration.
